At last

Well looks like I'm gonna get some work done today :) hope sun stays out , back in a bit

Well I manage it , i manage a bit of work on the car :)

I decided to star on this patch, nasty nasty this was, but still had to crack on and try and do something because serious it was rotten underneath.

After pulling the window rubber out i discovered it was worse than i thought it was, it was starting to rot through. i cleaned as much out as i could to try and stop any chance of the filler falling out with loose rust. sounds like my teeth at the mo LOL hahaha

Using U-POL P38 I started to try and level the area, the only pig really is doing a second layer, and hope that's enough .

this was the first coat the coat you just slap loads on..lol i filled behind the rubber as well to hopefully stop any spread of rust, even though it has been treated it can still return without a doubt, so do your best to avoid this.

After a good sanding down it starts to look more the part, after the second coat you should have no defaults in the filler after a second sanding. Don't forget before each new layer or before priming, was down the area with clean water and dry :).

As you can see, its been sanded down and washed as it should be , and filler on the glass or rubber can easily be removed after, and not its ready to have that area primed .
BINGO!!!

As you can see, its now been primed any excess will be removed tomorrow and will look a lot cleaner than it does in this picture.

Think its all I'm gonna manage to do today, because its late in the day .
So hopefully the weather will stay up tomorrow. Last to before and after pics below, see you tomorrow :)

Good evening

Good evening bloggers, sadly the weather has been causing havoc, and not allowing me to do anything sadly, I think I need to invest in a garage, with what though I don't know, I'm just about out of money,  Back later for a chatty chat

Wednesday 25 April 2012

Hello bloggers

Hi Bloggers, hope you are all well, after getting over the shock of yesterdays new, I've decided to post a little post today, the rain has been lashing down today and I'm guessing it has been for most of the people in the UK. i hope everywhere else in the world is having a great day :)

I discovered thanks to the rain today that i have a leaky sun roof. an i know this because my back side was well. lol

Its OFFICIAL

U-POL the company that make the fillers i use, have give me trademark permission to use their logo on my site, even stating that my project looks exciting and everything is looking great :)
So id like to acknowledge U-POL by saying thank you for everything

U-POL website

So now out of interest i can now do this :)
The filler I've been using for the small jobs  P38 Dent and Scratch Filler Made by the above and can be bought at most car repair and accessories shops

Its very easy to work with. you can get pre-fillers and finishing fillers too, I'm sure i will be using a lot more of their products. :)
Anyway hoping if the rain holds off i may do a very urgent body repair  tomorrow, see how it goes :)
Good night all

Monday Morning Blues

Good Morning everyone, woke up in a foul mood, i didn't get a chance to get a thing don't yesterday, what with pain from toothache, backache, and feeling ill i just couldn't even drag myself online, well I'm back today, I'm not 100% but I'm getting there, its horrid when you know you have readers and you cant get back on, so I'm sorry to those who read.

I'm hoping to get a few things done today so lets see how it goes today :)

Back soon all :D

Update coming shortly, just gonna get a coffee, and I'll be back ;)

Right here we go coffee on the side, and lappy in from of me :)

I've decided to do a little more on the body work today, but found something unexpected, A crack on the tailgate, A CRACK *SHOCK* i haven't treated this today though so just primed over what i didn't, for no . i decided first to fasten down the panels at the back and get rid of the disgusting dirt and grime under the glass at the back

As you can see from the picture on the left, screw mission and its looking rather grim to be honest, i hate dirt, but love getting dirty :)

I think in all honesty my car was starting to lay the foundations for mushroom breeding lol

there is quite a lot of bleaching today to kill mould but it will get done, anyway i finish screwing back down those small side panels, of which i will have pics later as silly me forgot to take em DOH!!!!!!!

And i have started on the scratches and chips on the tailgate . firstly this one .

You cant see from a picture, but that's one deep scratch and i found that crack just to the left of it , which I'll try and point out after, but as before, you have to strip back the paint and increase your work area .

I can show show you in this picture about stripping back the paint, as you can see, I've decided to take it back by about an inch.

So as you can see I've also worked on the stone chips in that area too, NOW the one to the furthest left is where the Crack is , which i will widen slightly soon and fill with P38 filler for dents and scratches, this is made by U-POL and can be picked up and any car care or accessories shops.

So that will be another job in the next few day to do , so as i said before i decided for not since the weather was looking off, to prime it straight off for a little protection from the rain should it come

As you can see between the two pictures you can get a nice smooth coat just from a little rubbing.
Anyway off for a bit of lunch and hopefully a bit more after, see you soon ;)

Sunday 22 April 2012

Happy Sunday

Morning all its sunday so its a day of relaxing and giving the truck a bit of a clean on the inside so not much doing today , but lets see how the days goes :) back later :D

Saturday 21 April 2012

Sunny day

Well its sunny out , for how long i don't know, its always the way though, when its sunny you don't feel well. any way time for a brew and some antibiotics and see where we take, back soon i hope :)

YAYYYYY i finally got just enough of a bright spell to do the wing woohoo remember yesterday?? about what i was saying with stone chips, here is a before the before ,the before, and after LOL does that make sense?

SO starting with the stone chip, this picture is just like the one i worked on, removing the layer of paint around the chip will make it easier to sand down and make it level and flat

In this Picture you can see the result of rubbing down to the primer and making a level platform on which to prime.

This is the finished result of that stone chip, and also remember what i said about rubbing down the whole panel to take off the shine? well you can quite clearly see that is hasn't affected the primer at all and it have a nice smooth finish.

But anyway back on subject

After papering up the important bits like the lights LOL i gave the wing a quick rub over with a damp cloth to remove any dirt or dust that may be laying on the paint work, this is important as you don't want tiny bubbles under the paint as they will show through

another handy tip, if your planning on replacing thing like light! and you already have the parts to change over, then just remove the parts before you spray, although you can do this anyway as long as you don't mind it taking longer. :)

Once done wait for the primer to dry and then gently remove the scrap paper that you used peel away slowly as over spray can peel the fresh layer of paint away from the body.

Then Take a step back and say to yourself, "wow that's great and I did that" and you can be proud of yourself for the job you have just done.

Remember we all have to start some where at sometime. just enjoy your project and take your time, Rushing can result in a job needing doing again . Anyway lets see if i can do anything else today and I'm feeling horrid and the weather is on the change , back soon hopefully :)

Friday 20 April 2012

Not a Good day

Good Morning all , what a night I've had, toothache is killing me and its just starting to rain, and i feel awful let see what the day holds, hopefully back shortly .....

Hey I'm back . well after being told i had an abscess and been put on meds I'm now all ready to go LOL. the weather is holding up at the moment so i have started on the wing rubbing down first to get rid of scratches and chips

As you can see from this picture looks like someone didn't like the last owner very much, sadly that happens in life and why we cant all just get on i don't know, Just the way of the world I'm afraid

This Just looks like someone had some tape on there at some point trying to hold on the once existing lens which doesn't exist anymore . Grrrr so hard to find parts cheaply, And so when they removed the tape, its taking some of the paint with it. which is not to much of an issue after a rubbing down and prime.

After rubbing down and sanding with 400 Grit wet and dry it does look messy, but dont be afraid of this it may look scratched to hell, but really when your going to prime on top of paint work you do really need to remove the shine to allow the primer to grab hold properly.

This picture allows you to see the before and after of the rubbing and sanding to remove that sheen.
Although for the weather lately it feels like the shine has been rubbed out the sky LOL

Here is another good tip for you, stone chips :D

Like this one, now if your going to be a perfectionist, and want to get rid of every tiny mark before a priming, then with little marks such a this i would suggest taking a layer of paint at least i CM from around the chip, how you do this is up to you, but i used a chisel very lightly and removed a thin layer around a chip just like this. then sanded down to the primer underneath, and blended it with the existing paint work so you couldn't feel the seam between the paint and existing primer, doing this will give you something like as follows.

This was done on chips of a size compareble to the first picture and the primer you see if the factor primer ( or so i believe, it may have been resprayed six times LOL )
But you can see that its now nice and flat and ready for a spray :)
I dont think i will get that chance today though as once again the clouds are closing and wetness look certain. if that changes there will be more posted tonight, if not, see you tomorrow.
God bless take care, see you soon :)

Morning after the rain before

Hi everyone, yes i went awol yesterday, it just wasnt the day to do anything, infact the weather was a disgrace, and i spent so of the day in bed, some down the doctors, and some with some friends, but weather may be a bit brighter today, so let see what happens, see you in a while :D

Well looks like the rain is against me again today, but what do you expect for April? oh well what can you do apart from sulk and say "DAMN DAMN DAMN"

we will just have to see what happens again tomorrow, but in the mean time im working on a project on the web to try make this blog a bit bigger and a bit better visit my-car-is-a-shed.weebly.com and have a look , its no where near finished but its a start .

SOOOO where are we upto. Ive raised the torsion bar to level off the suspension, It was riding low and making the vehicle sluggish as it appears to be going a bit better,

Ive cleaned out and tightened hoses as ive gone, and im hoping the water leak has gone, but you can never be too sure, so will keep checking on it and see what happens.

Ive got rid of rust, ok not all of it but its work in progress, and in turn any holes have been filled and sanded again not all off them, and ive sanded and primed areas that have been done already / and its starting to take shape slowly but surely .

So fingers crossed for tomorrow, and bugger it, the rain is leaking in the house now. So if its not one thing is another, hopefully see you tomorrow ta ta for now :)

Body and Prime

Today I'm making a start back on the body work see it i can get a bit more  done, the weather seems ok, just hope it stays that way :) off to halfords if Telford shortly, so see you soon :)

So far the weather has been horrid to me , and every time I've gone out it has started raining, god i hate days like this, really gets on my nerves.

But anyway here we go, not much but least i can put something.

As I explained yesterday, the suspension on the passenger side had start to drop and thanks to my mate Ste, pointing out where i was looking i decide to undertake the task of raising the torsion bar with my home made tool, *see yesterday* lol i did struggle I'm not gonna lie, but i did it in the end.

So for anyone new to this kinda stuff, the pic above is the bolt you are looking for, its about a third to half way down the vehicle from the from end, you WILL need a breaker bar as its a bugger to move, although i didn't have one i extended my wrench with a solid bit wood and that seems to have done the trick, Jacking the front end up helps a great deal, because then you don't have the whole weight of the truck to lift as well.

Please be careful and don't do what i did and near break your hand LOL

Anyway i started today by getting the bit of rubber on the trim back in place and it seems to be sitting neater than it was thankfully and you can also see the primer i had done before, and now being closer you can see its looking pretty neat. Oh by the way , when spraying i find it best to spray off and not go back on yourself while still on the body, otherwise you end up with blobs either end of the panel you are spraying, as long as everything is papered and covered this shouldn't be a problem.

Remember to prepare the surface for priming, using a wet and dry paper, (400 grit) sand down any paint flaking , scratches, marks, and any last out standing bits of filler.

Whist talking about filler, when you have filled and sanded, don't forget to look for any outstanding holes in the filler or pin holes, and REFILL these and sand down when dry, its worth remembering when you spray these pin hole and marks will stand out a mile , so do your best to make them as smooth as possible .

Its chucking down outside again, thought id share that .

So any little marks as i said and as i show here can be easy to sand out. Don't forget to rub your fingers lightly over it to make sure its smooth.

Really before spraying you should remove the shine from the paint work to allow the spray to adhere to the body properly.

Anyway enough for now, the sun is out and I'm off to check for clouds in the distance , see you later :)

Well after a few more showers it stay dry, sadly no photos during the papering up and getting ready . but here is a before and after, remember you can click pics to make them bigger :)

This is before, pic used from the other day. you can see the bottom already primed and a patchy area above it .

And now the whole door is ready to be top coated, i think it looks ok to be honest :)
Im really hoping the rain stays off tomorrow, as i want to do the other door, saying that, i may do the wing as its smaller and dont know how much is left in the tin LOL , take care all and see you tomorrow . bye for now  :)

Monday 16 April 2012

Good afternoon

Hey Bloggers, what a lovely day it is outside, im not hanging around for a bit as i got to bug off and see a mate, and try get this torsion bar raised, i have about an inch and a half difference in suspension height from one side to another , and this will never do LOL so see what happens , in a while people :)

Well sorry its a bit late today, it took longer than expected, well this is before the torsion lift i know its pretty hard to see but the front suspenion is sitting low, i wont have the after pic until tomorrow when i update this post, ive managed to raise at left an inch and a half and yes it does seem to be riding higher thankfully, and i almost broke my hand doing it damn it.

I had to make a tool to do it with though as i have no breaker bar, so had to make one myself LOL It did work though which is great, was a killer to do it and really pulled my arms out my socket.

found this crack in the rear n/s corner, so will be sorting that tomorrow wack a load of filler in it and let it be, i fancy being a bit of a cowboy tomorrow.  LOL i know i will have to do another raise on the suspension tomorrow just to level it off a slight be more .

I know it only a short post tomorrow, but back on the body tomorrow so hopefully a bit more on here for you tomorrow, night night all take care :)
